The Basics of Rod End Fittings

Rod End Fittings connect control rods, steering links, and tie-rods. These articulating joints are designed to offer precise control and point-to-point contact from the center of rotation. Self-lubricating, zinc-plated rod ends are maintenance-free and require no lubrication. Steel-on-steel and bronze-on-steel rod ends require periodic relubrication.

Standard rod ends have a threaded shaft with a tapped hole in the center. These types of joints may also be called "spherical" joints. In general, a spherical joint has a plane hole through the center. A threaded rod has two flats. The rod end can be attached to another component. The threaded shaft and tapped shaft are the two basic parts of a rod end.

For rod end fittings, two basic parts are a spherical joint with a hole in the center that extends to the outer edge of the rod. A clevis is a specialized type of joint that allows three axes of motion to move together. The clevis is a great option for mechanisms that require precision and accuracy. They are often the ideal choice for applications requiring a precise balance between power and precision.

The end of a rod end is generally made of brass. Its spherical joint is a cylindrical joint that can rotate 360deg. The spherical joint can be designed for any type of rotating joint. A rod-end with a single spherical joint is known as a spherical-spherical joint. These joints have an axial hole through the center of rotation.

The two main parts of a rod end are the shaft and the protrusion. The shaft is fixed in place. The rod end is secured in place by the locking collar. The rod ends are sold in sets of two, with the Tension and End Fittings. They can be used in conjunction with a spherical joint. Both components have an equal range of motion. In case of high-tension, the ball end has a lower tension.

A rod end can have a spherical or a cylindrical design. The ball end has a central plane hole that enables lubrication to enter the bearing. The rod ends can be stainless steel or self-lubricating. The two types can be used in different applications. The plain ball rod end bearings are usually used for moderate to high-load applications. They are available in a variety of sizes.

The Rod End is a direct replacement for a ball joint. Its protrusion can be threaded or not. Normally, a ball joint has a threaded mounting. A threaded rod is similar to a rod end. A threaded shaft is a direct replacement for a rod end. The locking collar is located on the spherical shaft and can be rotated.

The two most important components of a rod end are the shaft and the zerk. The shaft is the primary part of the rod end. The inner ball contains a hole that allows lubrication to enter the rod end. In some cases, a ball joint has a threaded hole, but it is not self-lubricating. The zerk must be greased every time the rod end is changed.

Maintenance-free rod ends have a low friction bearing surface. They are ideal for long-term use and are maintenance-free. These rod ends are also used in applications where continuous direction is required. Some of them are also reversible. Depending on the application, some rod end fittings can be installed in reverse. You should not put any gaskets or other metal parts in a door that opens. They can be damaged by hammering.
